Pink rocks and crystalline sea meet history
Caprera Island
Caprera (Garibaldi's Island)
The second largest island in the archipelago, and a fully protected area. Caprera is connected to La Maddalena by a 600-meter bridge, built in 1958. Besides its beauty, the island is famous as the last residence of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
The Casa Bianca preserves his memories: here, the Hero of Two Worlds lived for 26 years before his death: 6:21 PM on June 2, 1882, as the clock and calendar in his room show. Everyday objects, possessions, and memorabilia are housed here in the Garibaldi Compendium, one of the most visited museums in Italy.
Of granite origin, it boasts numerous forests, primarily pine forests, and estuaries with sandy coves alternating with cliffs overlooking the sea. The waters are a deep, crystalline green, thanks to the strong currents that cleanse the sea of suspended particles, and the pure white sand seabed enhances the hues.
