Where It All Began

When Prince Karim Aga Khan IV first flew over this stretch of northeast Sardinia in the early 1960s, he saw nothing but wild coastline, granite boulders, and water so green it looked bottled. Within a decade, the Costa Smeralda had become the most exclusive resort corridor in the Mediterranean, a place where privacy and spectacle coexist in a way no other coastline has managed to replicate.

BluWonder has operated from Porto Cervo since 1995. Our captains grew up on this coast. They know the morning winds that funnel through Cala di Volpe, the afternoon currents off Liscia Ruja, and the exact hour when the light hits Spiaggia del Principe at its most photogenic angle. That local knowledge is something no guidebook can give you.

A typical Costa Smeralda charter with us moves at the pace you choose. Some guests want to cover every beach from Portisco to Baia Sardinia in a single day. Others prefer to anchor at one cove, swim until lunch, and let the afternoon dissolve over a bottle of Vermentino. Both approaches are exactly right.

Highlights along the coast

Porto Cervo

The social and nautical heart of the Costa Smeralda. Its marina hosts some of the world’s largest superyachts, while the Piazzetta above buzzes with boutiques, restaurants, and an atmosphere that is equal parts Italian charm and international glamour.

Cala di Volpe

The bay that gave its name to one of the world’s most iconic hotels. Anchoring in Cala di Volpe means turquoise water so clear it looks artificial, framed by low granite cliffs covered in juniper and myrtle.

Spiaggia del Principe

Named after the Aga Khan, who chose this crescent of white sand as his personal favorite when he developed the coast. Transparent shallows and a backdrop of wild Mediterranean macchia make it one of Italy’s finest beaches.

Romazzino Beach

A long sweep of fine white sand backed by fragrant juniper groves. Less crowded than the marquee beaches, Romazzino rewards those willing to explore further along the coast.

Liscia Ruja

Crystal-clear, emerald waters like the coastline, white sand with golden highlights that turns pink as it meets the sea, and Mediterranean scrub all around to protect it. Liscia Ruja is one of the Costa Smeralda’s most famous and largest beaches, located in the southern stretch of the gulf, just steps from the most renowned hotels on the entire coast.
