A Different World, 11 Kilometers Away

Corsica is visible from the northern tip of Sardinia on any clear day. The French island sits just 11 kilometers across the Strait of Bonifacio, close enough to reach in under an hour by yacht, yet different enough to feel like another country. Because it is. The language shifts, the architecture changes, and the coastline takes on a wilder, more vertical character that contrasts sharply with Sardinia’s gentle coves.

Our cross-strait charters are among the most popular itineraries we offer. The route departs from Porto Cervo or from Hotel’s pier in Costa Smeralda (or from other harbours of north east Sardinia), crosses through the Lavezzi Islands nature reserve, and arrives at Bonifacio’s dramatic harbor by mid-morning. That leaves time to explore the citadel, have lunch in the port, and return through a different set of islands on the way back.

For guests on multi-day charters, Corsica opens up further. The Lavezzi archipelago alone can fill an entire day of swimming and snorkeling. And the sense of crossing an international border by sea, watching one island recede as another grows on the horizon, adds a dimension to the trip that a single-island charter cannot match.

Bonifacio Citadel

A medieval fortress city perched on sheer white limestone cliffs that drop straight into the sea. Approaching Bonifacio from the water is one of the most dramatic arrivals in the Mediterranean. The old town above dates back to the 9th century, a labyrinth of narrow streets, stone stairways, and views that stretch all the way back to Sardinia.

Lavezzi Islands

A protected nature reserve halfway between Sardinia and Corsica, the Lavezzi Islands are a scattered field of granite boulders rising from shallow turquoise water. No buildings, no infrastructure, just rock, sand, and sea. Swimming here feels like being at the edge of the known world.compared to the Caribbean.

Bonifacio Harbor

The long, narrow natural harbor at the foot of the citadel cliffs is one of the most photographed ports in France. Mooring here for lunch, surrounded by pastel-painted buildings and the towering limestone walls above, is an experience that stays with you.
